Origin: The Train Like A Boxer (TTLAB) system was designed in March of 2006 by Lawrence Ragos in Auburn Hills, Michigan. It was created based on the general public's notion of traditional boxing as a brutal sport. Lawrence has always believed in the benefits of boxing as a form of fitness, and in turn, realized TTLAB could become a tailored system for the fitness enthusiast. The system has evolved into a progressive and well-rounded program that has helped clients and groups lose weight, gain confidence, tone up and build stamina.
Methodology: Lawrence made it a point to use little to no equipment for trainees to benefit from the Train Like A Boxer system. Saving time, space and equipment was given top priority. Currently, he incorporates the use boxing's basic bags together with medicine balls, jump ropes and various body weight interval exercises through circuit training. The continued change-up in routine is essential for muscle confusion for better results.
Progression System: Techniques taught at the beginning of the program start with footwork, stance and the two basic punches (jabs and straights). From there, new punches, defensive techniques and combinations are introduced. For best results, a client is suggested to train 2-3 times a week to ensure he/she will learn and practice the techniques taught, and at the same time improve their fitness level. Every time a client shows up for training, a new technique is offered and exercises vary and progressively intensified. Only in this type of challenging regimen will fitness and skill level be realized. The continued transformation is the "flavor" of the system.
